Acupuncture, Herbal Medicine, Moxibustion, Gua-Sha, Cupping

TREATMENTS

The initial consultation and treatment generally last about 1 1/2 hours. Subsequent visits will last about an hour. After going over your intake form and finding more in-depth information regarding your overall state of being, I will then take your pulse and observe your tongue. I will also palpate your abdomen and areas of sensitivity corresponding to your meridians for further diagnostic findings. I will then gently insert the needles into the carefully chosen points.

After all of the needles have been inserted, you will be left to rest with them and will enter into a very deep state of relaxation and may even fall asleep!!

I may incorporate other modalities of Chinese Medicine such as:

Cupping: Cupping is an ancient Chinese practice in which a plastic or glass cup is applied to the skin and the pressure in the cup is reduced (by using change in heat or by suctioning out air), so that the skin and superficial muscle layer is drawn into and held in the cup. Drawing up the skin opens up the skin’s pores, which helps to stimulate the flow of blood, balances and realigns the flow of qi, breaks up obstructions, and creates an avenue for toxins to be drawn out of the body. It is commonly used for low back pain, indigestion, painful menstruation, common cold, and hypertension, among other conditions.

Gua Sha: This ancient method of promoting “qi” and blood circulation as well as the removal of toxic heat, stagnant blood and lymph fluid from the body is an extremely effective method of improving one’s health. Here, steady friction is applied to the skin in even and repetitive strokes, with a dull edge that draws toxic fluid to the surface in the form of small red or purple spots (sha) that will fade in 2 to 3 days. Gua Sha can be used to treat chronic neck, shoulder and back pain, migraines, sinusitis, insomnia and skin disorders among many others.

Moxibustion: The herb artemesia vulgaris, also known as mugwort is heated at specific regions and acupuncture points to warm and stimulate the flow of energy, circulate and strengthen the blood, and to maintain good health.

Moxibustion is especially effective in the treatment of chronic problems and weakness. It is often used for pain syndromes and to treat areas that feel cold on the body. Some conditions it effectively treats are fatigue, hypothyroidism, menstrual cramps and joint pain.

Herbal Medicine: Chinese herbal medicine is an ancient, highly elaborate system of natural healing that has been used by billions of people for all kinds of health conditions.

Chinese herbal medicine is a wonderful complement to acupuncture treatment, as it works on different substrates in the body and maintains continuity in therapeutic intervention. Acupuncture works on the level of energy by harmonizing the flow of Qi through the main energetic pathways of the body. Acupuncture is so unique because it is one of the few therapies that can manipulate the flow of energy in the body and mind to produce a therapeutic effect. In acupuncture theory, until chronic health conditions are addressed on the energetic level, the root cause or problem will often be neglected.

Chinese herbs work more on the level of blood and manifest physiology. The herbs contain macro and micronutrients that can have specific therapeutic effects on certain organs of the body, such as the liver or kidneys. By working on both the immaterial and material levels, the treatment of acupuncture with herbs is much more effective and lasting.

Facial Rejuvenation

What is Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture?

Also known as Cosmetic Acupuncture, Facial Rejuvenation is a safe, non-surgical, virtually painless method of reversing the signs of aging. It is a personalized treatment designed to make you look and feel more vibrant from the inside out. This technique will address your specific physical, mental, and emotional patterns that are contributing to the aging process.

What are the effects?

Based on your individual needs, specific points on the face and body are chosen to stimulate the flow of blood, lymph and energy to the face. Facial Rejuvenation reduces or eliminates fine lines and wrinkles. It tones facial muscles, lifting sagging skin, reducing double chins, and firming jowls. It helps to eliminate puffiness by draining excess fluids and improving metabolism. In addition, your eyes will be brighter, bags or dark circles will diminish while simultaneously improving your overall health and skin.

How does it work?

Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture aims to restore any underlying constitutional imbalances that are causing the aging process to manifest the way it is for you. When balance is restored, you will look and feel more radiant. On a physiological level, it… increases collagen and elastin production and its dispersal, aiding in firming the skin and filling out lines…increases circulation of blood and lymph throughout the body, which can balance out skin color, moisturize and nourish the face. By increasing lymph flow, toxic elements in the skin can be eliminated…Hormonal balance is improved, which help acne and reduce stress…Sun exposure, illness and aging decrease collagen and elastin production. Acupuncture helps to activate cell regeneration and growth.

What is the course of treatment?

For maximum benefit, a series of 10 to 15 treatments is required. After completing a course of treatment, monthly, then seasonal maintenance sessions will sustain the effect.

Testimonials

"My intense boxing training began was causing me reoccurring back and shoulder spasms and knots. After months of massage therapy I decided to try acupuncture. I felt great relief within the first two sessions, and my spasms completely stopped within two weeks. I now make acupuncture with Victoria part of my weekly training regime."
